Pearl Hoops & Huggies
A pearl hoop is one of the few pieces that works at nine in the morning and at eight at night without changing anything else you are wearing. It is also one of the easiest to get wrong — a real pearl at hoop scale is heavy, expensive and unhappy in water.

Jo Gold pairs a pearl with a stone. Aster Star Pearl and Kai Seashell Pearl hang a motif from the hoop.
Macy and Tinsley are the two larger pearl hoops — a different proposition from the huggies, closer to a statement piece than an everyday one.
Why synthetic is the right answer here
This is not a compromise on a real pearl, it is a different product doing a different job.
A natural or cultured pearl is nacre over a nucleus. It is dense, so a hoop-sized one pulls on the lobe by the end of an evening. It is also porous, which is why real pearls should not meet perfume, hairspray, chlorine or sweat — the surface dulls and does not come back.
A synthetic pearl has none of those problems. It is light enough to wear all day, indifferent to a swimming pool, and it costs what it costs. Under the FTC's jewelry guides an imitation pearl must be described as one, which is why these say synthetic rather than leaving you to guess.

Questions
Are these real pearls?
No — synthetic, and stated as such on every product page. That is deliberate. A real pearl at this size would be heavy on the lobe, and it would not survive sunscreen, perfume or a swimming pool. The FTC's jewelry guides require an imitation pearl to be described as one.
Can I swim in them?
Five of the seven carry a waterproof rating for shower, pool, ocean and sweat. Two do not — the two larger hoops. The rating is on each product page, so check the style you want rather than the page as a whole.
Are they safe for sensitive ears?
The post is 316L surgical-grade stainless steel on all seven, and the post is the only part inside your piercing. Nickel in a base-metal post is the usual cause of itching and redness; there is none here.
Will the pearl coating wear off?
Treat a synthetic pearl the way you would a real one and it lasts: keep it away from perfume, hairspray and sunscreen, and put earrings in after those rather than before. Abrasive polishing cloths are the fastest way to damage the surface.
Huggie or hoop?
The huggies sit close against the lobe and can be slept in. The two larger pearl hoops are for wearing rather than forgetting about. If you want one pair that never comes out, start with the huggies.
