There are two people who buy a softball earring. One plays. One spends every Saturday in a folding chair watching someone else play.
These are made for both. Twelve screw back studs, nine necklaces and a huggie charm across baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer, basketball, tennis, golf, football, lacrosse, pickleball and ski — the sport in enamel on a stud small enough to wear to work on Monday.
The studs screw onto a threaded post rather than pushing on, which is the part that matters when a fourteen-year-old is sliding into second or pulling a jersey over her head. They do not come off unless someone unscrews them.
Studs are $32, necklaces $39.
Every one of the twelve studs is 316L surgical-grade stainless steel on a 20G (0.8mm) post, 7mm long, and all twelve are made to ASTM F2923-20, the US safety standard for children's jewelry. All twelve are nickel free.
All twelve are also rated waterproof — shower, pool, ocean and sweat. That combination is the reason these work for a player rather than just a spectator: the steel does not react to sweat the way plated brass does, the screw back does not work loose during a game, and the flat disc back sits flush enough to sleep in after a late tournament.
Baseball — a stud in gold and silver, two necklaces, and a huggie charm. The gold stud did 382 pairs last year.
Softball — stud and necklace. The single best-selling sport style in the shop.
Volleyball — stud and necklace, 395 pairs last year.
Soccer — stud and necklace.
Basketball, Tennis, Golf — stud and necklace in each.
Football — the classic stud and a football heart.
Lacrosse, Pickleball — studs.
Ski — necklace.
Most of the studs are an 8mm heart with the sport worked into it in enamel, which is why they read as jewelry rather than as merchandise.
Twenty of these twenty-two are sold as children's styles, and the screw back is the reason. A push-back stud in a gym bag is a lost earring; a screw back is still there at the end of the tournament. For a newly pierced ear, the kids hypoallergenic range covers the same mechanism across every motif.
If you're dressing for the game rather than playing in it, game day earrings has the team colours and state shapes — 33 styles, including Texas, Texas A&M and Gator.
Yes, and that is the point of the screw back. The back threads onto the post instead of pushing on, so it does not work loose during a game, in a gym bag or when a jersey comes over the head. All twelve studs are 316L surgical-grade stainless steel and rated waterproof, so sweat, a rain delay and the pool afterwards are all fine.
All twelve studs are made to ASTM F2923-20, the US standard for children's jewelry, which limits lead and cadmium content, nickel release and small parts. All twelve are nickel free. Twenty of the twenty-two styles here are sold as children's styles.
Most are 8mm, which reads clearly as the sport without being a novelty earring. The design sits flat against the lobe rather than dangling, which is what makes them wearable at school or work as well as at a game.
Eleven sports are covered: baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer, basketball, tennis, golf, football, lacrosse, pickleball and ski. If yours isn't here, the enamel motif range covers a lot of ground beyond sport.
The stud and the matching necklace, which is the most common pairing bought here. $32 and $39. Both are hypoallergenic and neither needs taking off, which matters for someone who is at a field four evenings a week.
